PAIE Scholars Program 2026 by J-PAL for Researchers Evaluating AI in Africa and Asia

The PAIE Scholars Program trains researchers who live and work in low and middle income countries in Africa and Asia to evaluate AI enabled interventions for social good. Scholars who complete the training receive a conditional award of US$1,000, and those who pass the assessment can go on to proposal support and mentorship.

Eligibility: You have completed a PhD in economics or another relevant empirical discipline

A conditional award of US$1,000 for scholars who complete the training and meet the program requirements. Proposal development and travel support, plus research mentorship, may follow for scholars who pass the proctored assessment and submit a revised concept note, and can support a pilot proposal that undergoes a separate competitive review.
