About this opportunity
The African Agentic AI Design Challenge is a continental call for people who understand a real problem inside an African institution, whether they write code or not. The task is to build an agentic AI using MCP and open source tools that solves a genuine workflow bottleneck, and to do it inside an official seven day build period that ends with a twenty minute live review.
Four tracks run the challenge: Healthcare with The Triage Desk, Governance with The Bid Box Challenge, Agriculture with The Extension Backlog, and Education with The Long View. Each track carries its own brief, requirements, prizes, rubric and rules, and every solution has to obey one rule the organisers call non negotiable, the AI agent recommends and a human decides.
The top 40 submissions form the first cohort in a visible pipeline of African agentic AI builders. They receive mentor support from industry experts, dedicated compute resources and credits, structured incubation and a community of peers, and the strongest teams showcase their work at the MCP Dev Summit in Nairobi in November 2026.
The page publishes no entry fee and no cash figure, while the organisers state that the top four teams win cash prizes.
