About this opportunity
An internship at the African Development Bank is not coffee duty. The Bank is the premier pan-African development institution, financing and shaping projects across energy, agriculture, digital economy, governance and human capital on a continent scale, and its internship programme is the front door for young Africans who want that world as a career.
Session 1 of the 2027 Internship Program opens in January 2027. Internships run between three and six months, either remotely or on site depending on the hiring unit, and eligible interns receive a monthly stipend plus medical insurance coverage paid by the Bank for the duration. On-site interns cover their own travel and upkeep, with the Bank assisting where it can with entry and residence visas for Abidjan postings.
Eligibility
You must be a national of an AfDB member country, no older than 30 at the start of the programme, currently enrolled in a master level degree programme at a recognised institution (or within one year of having obtained that degree), fluent in at least one of the Bank's working languages, English or French, and comfortable with standard office software. Knowledge of SAP is a plus.
Fields of study span the Bank's job families: agriculture, human capital, engineering, investment, operations, sustainability, procurement, risk, finance, capacity development, governance, economics, statistics and data management, human resources, information technology, translation and interpretation, communication, legal and advisory functions, among others.
Application steps
Applications open for fifteen calendar days, from 28 September to 12 October 2026. You apply online through the vacancy page and attach a comprehensive curriculum vitae. Only complete online applications are considered, and applicants who fully meet the requirements are contacted for further assessment. If you hit technical trouble, email HRDirect@AFDB.ORG with a description and a screenshot.
One honest note: the Bank selects on competitive basis against business needs, and an internship does not promise immediate employment afterwards. It does build exactly the experience and network that leads there.
