About this opportunity

Most research on how children learn and develop never reaches the caregivers who could use it. BOLD built its fellowship to close that distance, and the 2027 cohort is now open. What the fellowship pays and gives

The fellowship carries a stipend of CHF 5,000. The page states the grant covers the time and resource investment the fellowship asks of you, paid 50% at the initiation of the fellowship and 50% at the end following completion of all required tasks and milestones. Alongside the money, fellows get a writing workshop with the Editor-in-Chief of BOLD, training on how to edit their own work and their colleagues', a monthly writing club with the BOLD team, training with experts on producing science communication videos for social media and writing for general audiences, and publication of their work on BOLD's website and social media channels.

Eligibility

Applicants are welcome from anywhere in the world. You are eligible if you are a scientist studying an aspect of children's learning and development and an active researcher no more than 10 years post-PhD. The page is explicit that you do not need a PhD to apply. Fellows are expected to attend the virtual introduction in January 2027, dedicate around six hours per month to content development and virtual training sessions, and produce at least three pieces of content agreed with the Editor-in-Chief. The timeline

The published timeline runs 1 September 2026, applications open, to 31 October 2026, applications close. Applications are reviewed in November 2026, fellows are informed on 1 December 2026, the virtual introduction takes place on 4 January 2027, and the fellowship runs from 4 January 2027 to 30 June 2027. What to submit

The submission list is an application in English consisting of a sample article or video, ideally up to 500 words or 3 minutes, explaining a scientific concept relevant to BOLD for caregivers, a written statement of up to 500 words on why you want the fellowship and why you would be a good fit, and your CV including any previous science communication experience. The fellowship is reviewed by BOLD's Editor-in-Chief alongside the Learning Outreach Lead of the Jacobs Foundation.
