Applications are now open for the 2026 Dangote Cement Industry-Based Engineering Research Competition, an initiative sponsored by Dangote Cement Plc and organized by the Academic & Research Board (ARB) of the University of Lagos Engineering Society (ULES). The competition is designed to encourage undergraduate engineering students to develop innovative, practical, and sustainable solutions to real-world challenges in the cement manufacturing industry while bridging the gap between academic learning and industrial practice.

Eligibility

Applicants must: Be currently enrolled undergraduate engineering students in Nigeria Apply as a team of 2–4 students Belong to the same university Submit original and unpublished work Select one competition challenge track Multidisciplinary engineering teams are encouraged. Previous experience in the cement industry is not required.

Prize Pool Successful teams will compete for a total of ₦1. 5 million in cash prizes: 1st Place: ₦700,000 + Certificate 2nd Place: ₦500,000 + Certificate 3rd Place: ₦300,000 + Certificate Participants will also receive: Professional mentorship from industry experts Networking opportunities with engineering professionals Exposure to real-world industrial challenges Recognition from one of Africa’s leading manufacturing companies Challenge Areas Teams must choose one of the following research tracks: Alternative Fuel Sourcing and Pricing Optimization Predictive Maintenance and Reliability Early-Warning System Cement Production Conversion Gap Digital KPI Automation and Data Quality Required Submission Documents Teams are required to submit: A 10-slide executive presentation A technical appendix or prototype/model (where applicable) A one-page business case covering value, costs, assumptions, and risks An implementation roadmap outlining immediate, short-term, and medium-term execution plans A risk and safety assessment A statement of assumptions and data limitations Additional submission templates and guidelines will be shared with registered participants.
