About this opportunity
Applications are now open for the Competition for Youth-Led Projects 2026–2027 , an international opportunity supporting young people who are developing practical solutions to help communities prepare for and respond to floods and droughts . The competition, organised under the Integrated Drought Management Programme (IDMP) , will provide funding and expert support to selected youth-led projects focused on strengthening community resilience to water-related climate risks.

Eligibility
The competition is open to students and young professionals aged 18–35 who are leading projects that involve young people in addressing flood and drought risks. Proposed projects must: Be youth-led and actively involve young people under 35 Have clearly defined objectives, timelines, and scope Provide practical and measurable results Strengthen community resilience to floods or droughts Be completed within a maximum of nine months Have potential for long-term sustainability and scalability Include an innovative element.
What Kind of Projects Are Eligible? The competition is looking for practical ideas that can make communities more resilient to floods and droughts.
Innovative approaches could include: Combining indigenous and scientific knowledge New approaches to community engagement Low-cost climate adaptation solutions Projects that increase women’s participation in resilience activities Community preparedness and disaster-risk reduction initiatives Solutions that improve local responses to flood and drought risks. Why This Matters Young people are particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, including increasing flood and drought risks.
At the same time, they can play an important role in developing locally relevant solutions and strengthening community preparedness. This competition gives young innovators an opportunity to turn their ideas into practical projects while receiving funding and guidance from experts in flood and drought management.
