The 12-month International UN Volunteer Specialist assignment is expected to commence on 1 November 2026, with a possibility of extension. About the Assignment The selected Climate Change Specialist will work under the supervision of the Chief of WASH/Climate Change Lead and collaborate with government institutions, UN agencies, development partners, civil society organisations, youth-led groups and other stakeholders.
The role will support the integration of climate action into programmes covering areas such as WASH, health, nutrition, education, child protection and social policy. Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will: Support the integration of climate change adaptation, mitigation and resilience into UNICEF programmes.
Support government and partners in implementing climate-risk-informed and child-sensitive programmes. Contribute to the implementation of UNICEF Nigeria’s Climate Landscape Analysis for Children Action Plan.
Support climate financing initiatives and policy engagement. Coordinate climate-related meetings, workshops and consultations.
Promote the participation of children, adolescents and young people in climate action. Conduct research and develop technical briefs, case studies and knowledge products.
Analyse climate-related programme data and support monitoring, reporting and evaluation. Participate in field monitoring visits and document lessons learned and best practices.
Contribute to donor reports, presentations, briefing notes and other communication materials.
Eligibility
Applicants should have: A Bachelor’s degree in Environment, Climate, Energy, Development Studies or a related field. At least 3 years of relevant professional experience.
Experience in areas such as climate change, climate financing, climate policy, youth engagement, research, knowledge management, data analysis, monitoring and reporting. Experience working with government institutions, UN agencies, development partners, NGOs, CSOs, youth networks or community-based organisations.
Strong analytical, research and documentation skills. Good data analysis, monitoring and reporting capabilities.
Excellent communication, facilitation and partnership-building skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Fluency in English is desirable.
