About this opportunity
Namibia’s green transformation is reshaping communities, and most of that story is still waiting for a reporter with the time and resources to tell it properly. DW Akademie is offering financial support to Namibian journalists, content creators, media professionals, media organisations, researchers and civil society organisations who want to carry out in depth reporting or research on environmental issues, green growth initiatives and the extractive industries.
The grants form part of the EU funded project Eco Dialogue Collective, Empowering Media and Civil Society for a Transparent Green Future, implemented by DW Akademie together with the Institute for Public Policy Research, the Namibia Media Trust and the Legal Assistance Centre. Selected projects should dig into topics such as extractive industries, energy projects and environmental policies, and show how these changes land on real communities.
Winning proposals are not limited to a single format. The call welcomes investigative reports, explainer pieces, data driven stories, documentaries, data visualisations, social media content and podcast series, as long as the work is publishable and easy for a wide audience to follow. Funded reporting runs between December 2026 and May 2027, and completed work can be published through The Green Screen, the digital information hub of the Eco Dialogue Collective.

Who should not apply

Selection process
- All applications are reviewed by an evaluation committee with representatives of the Namibia Media Trust, the Institute for Public Policy Research, the Legal Assistance Centre and DW Akademie.
- Criteria include the quality, relevance and feasibility of the proposal, a clear focus on green transition issues, and the incorporation of relevant Namibian policy discourse.
- The committee also weighs the aim, design and methodology of the project, the audience participation approach and impact potential, and the innovativeness of the approach.
- Integration of marginalised perspectives and regional or ethnic diversity, the expertise of the applicant, the diversity of partners involved, and the feasibility of the time frame are all considered.
- The Evaluation Committee may suggest changes to the proposed project and budget within the limits of the grant amount.
- After a preliminary award, DW Akademie conducts a partner appraisal and may reject an application that does not meet ethical, technical and funds management criteria before issuing the grant contract.
