About this opportunity
Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease is a genetic disorder of the peripheral nerves, and much of the work that could lead to a treatment sits with researchers early in their careers, when funding is hardest to find. The George and Cleary Simpson Award for Emerging Researchers was built for exactly that moment.
The Charcot-Marie-Tooth Research Foundation gives one award per cycle, worth USD 75,000 for a year, with up to USD 1,500 of it available for travel. The focus area for the 2026/2027 cycle is transcriptional regulation of the peripheral nerve using omic level analysis, and proposals outside that area will not be considered. Applicants from all countries are eligible, and the awardee receives free registration for a Global CMT Research Convention during the award period, alongside access to the foundation's consortia, committees and mentors.
Applications open on 7 December 2026 and close on 29 January 2027, after an optional Letter of Intent window that runs from 15 October to 12 November 2026. Applications are reviewed in spring 2027, award notification is issued on 1 June 2027, and the earliest project start date is 1 July 2027.
