About this opportunity

The UCL Institute of Education, working with HP, has opened applications for the HP-UCL IOE Fellowship in AI in Education, a global executive leadership programme for senior figures shaping how artificial intelligence enters classrooms, institutions and policy.

The fellowship is designed for people already carrying real decisions, whether in a ministry, a regulator, a national agency, a school system, an international organisation or an edtech company. It brings together expertise in artificial intelligence, learning sciences, policy, ethics and human computer interaction so leaders can move past the hype and design learning centred strategies that strengthen inclusion and capacity.

The programme runs as a hybrid fellowship across twelve months. It begins with weekly live online sessions, moves into a one week residential in London, and then continues with nine months of mentored work on a capstone project drawn from a live challenge in your own organisation.

The fellowship is fully funded, with all programme costs covered once you are accepted, while you arrange your own airfare and visa. Applications for the 2026 cohort close 7 November 2026.

What you receive

  • All programme costs are fully funded on acceptance, apart from airfares and visas.
  • Weekly live online learning on the foundations, opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence in education.
  • A one week residential in London with academics who inform AI education policy at UNESCO, the OECD, the Council of Europe and the European Commission.
  • Nine months of mentoring on an applied capstone project, such as an AI strategy, a procurement framework or a policy design for your own organisation.
  • Training in governance, ethics, procurement, evidence and scaling so you can assess vendor claims before committing budget.
  • Membership of a select cohort of international senior leaders and a global network of fellows.

Who can apply

  • You are a senior education policymaker, regulator, inspectorate leader, system leader or organisational leader working across education, government or the public sector.
  • You may be a C suite executive or senior leader at an international edtech company, or a senior official at an international organisation working on education and AI policy.
  • You work in or your organisation operates within the programme geographies of Europe, Asia and Africa.
  • You hold a leadership or decision making role where the applied output can be used within your organisation.

Who should not apply

  • Airfares and visa costs are not covered by the fully funded programme costs.
  • The fellowship targets senior leaders, so it is not designed for early career applicants without a leadership role.

Documents to prepare

  • A completed programme application form submitted through the official application link.
  • A clear account of your current role, your organisation and the live policy or implementation challenge you would like your capstone project to address.

How to apply

  • Read the programme page at ucl.ac.uk and check that your role and geography fit the fellowship.
  • Open the programme application form from the Apply now link on this listing.
  • Describe your leadership context and the capstone challenge you want to work on.
  • Submit the application before 7 November 2026.
  • If you have questions about eligibility or your suitability, write to the programme team at hp-ucl-aied@ucl.ac.uk.

Selection process

  • Applications are reviewed against the programme's aim of building senior leadership for responsible AI transformation in education.
  • Applicants are assessed on the fit of their role and their organisation to the fellowship and on the value of their proposed capstone challenge.
  • Selected fellows are notified and join a cohort that runs from online sessions into the London residential and then nine months of mentoring.
