About this opportunity
Most of what people love about old buildings was made by hands that learned from other hands, and that knowledge travels only if someone writes it down, teaches it or builds with it. Living Legacy funds exactly that kind of work. It supports research, publications, exhibitions, courses, archives, digital tools and pilot projects that help traditional building cultures survive and spread.
This is the first edition, made possible by the Friends of the Foundation, whose annual contributions create room for new initiatives beyond the Foundation's existing programmes. Three grants of up to 3,000 euros each are on offer, and the jury may award less, or declare one or more grants vacant if the applications do not reach the standard required.
The doors are wide on applicant type. Individuals, associations, foundations, universities, research centres and cultural institutions may all apply, alone or as a team, as long as the project connects directly to the field. Applications may be written in Spanish or English, and the programme is open internationally rather than to one region.
The call opened on 22 September 2026 and closes on 1 December 2026. Decisions are published on 1 February 2027, and funded projects must be finished by 31 December 2027. The Foundation publishes no cut off time, so build in a margin before the closing date.

Who can apply

- Eligible project types include research, documentation and inventory work, printed or digital publications, exhibitions and curatorial projects, courses, workshops, seminars and conferences, educational and outreach programmes, transmission of traditional building trades, audiovisual documentation and archives, digital tools and platforms, and pilot or experimental projects
- Proposals may be written in Spanish or English
Who should not apply
- Projects whose main purpose is to generate commercial profit
- Projects without a direct connection to the objectives of the call
- Applications or documentation sent by any means other than the Foundation application form
- The jury decision is final and not subject to appeal
Documents to prepare
- Completed application form
- Project description of up to five A4 pages in PDF, covering background, objectives, planned activities, working methodology, implementation schedule, expected results and potential impact, all sections required
- Budget of up to one A4 page in PDF, with a breakdown of expected expenses, the amount requested from the Foundation and any other funding awarded or requested for the same project
- Curriculum vitae or professional profile of the applicant, or a brief presentation of the organisation and the responsible team, of up to two A4 pages in PDF
- Links to the websites of the entity, project or applicant where applicable
- Supplementary documentation only where it helps the evaluation, such as images, plans, publications, links to audiovisual material
How to apply

- Upload the supporting documentation through the form, since applications sent by any other route are not accepted
- Submit before 1 December 2026
- Wait for the decision, published on 1 February 2027, and plan to finish the funded work by 31 December 2027
Selection process
- A jury appointed by the Foundation reviews applications, made up of its executive team, recognised professionals from fields related to traditional building cultures and representatives of the Friends of the Foundation
- Criteria include the quality, interest and originality of the proposal, its contribution to knowledge, practice, documentation, conservation, transmission or dissemination, the rigour of the methodology, technical, financial and time feasibility, the track record of the applicant or team, the potential impact and reach of results, and how well the budget fits the objectives
- The jury may ask for clarifications or additional information at any point
- The jury may award the maximum, a lower amount, or declare one or more grants vacant
- Results are published on 1 February 2027 and the decision is final and not open to appeal
