About this opportunity
A government scholarship for students in African Union member states and African Commonwealth countries, to study full time on campus in Mauritius. The Mauritius Africa Scholarship Scheme is issued every year by the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Research, and the 2027 edition covers Diploma, National Diploma in Nursing, Degree, MPhil, MPhil/PhD and PhD programmes at public higher education institutions.
The support is not a token. Tuition fees are met, there is a contribution to living expenses for the duration of your studies, and return airfare by the most economical route is covered both at the start and back to your country of origin on successful completion. Duration follows the programme table, three years for an undergraduate diploma, three years and six months for the nursing diploma, four years for a degree, two years plus six months for an MPhil and three years plus six months for a PhD, or the minimum course duration, whichever is shorter.
The route is the part most applicants miss. You must already have applied for a full-time on-campus place at a public higher education institution in Mauritius, then complete the ministry application form electronically and have Section 5 endorsed by the nominating agency in your own country of citizenship, which is typically part of your Ministry of Education. Each agency shortlists and endorses a maximum of 15 candidates, and the ministry states plainly that applications not processed through a nominating agency will not be considered. For Nigeria that agency is the Federal Scholarship Board in Abuja.
Age limits are firm. Undergraduate applicants must be above 18 and must not have reached their 26th birthday by 1 January 2028. MPhil, MPhil/PhD and PhD applicants must not have reached their 40th birthday by the same date. Soft copies of all documents are due by 17 March 2027 and hard copies by 31 March 2027, forwarded to the Permanent Secretary of the ministry at Level 12, SICOM Tower, Ebene Cybercity.
