About this opportunity

Transport planning rarely starts from a woman's working day. Where she can travel safely, what a broken route costs her in income, and what harassment does to the choices she can make. RIDE wants that evidence and is paying for it properly.

The call is open to research teams and consortia at universities and research institutes anywhere in the world, as long as the research focuses on one of the RIDE partner countries. In Africa those are Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Ghana and South Africa, and applications led by women researchers or based in Africa are actively encouraged.

At least two projects will be funded at GBP 150,000 to GBP 200,000 each, running up to 15 months and finishing by 31 March 2028. Two themes are on the table: violence against women and girls in transit, and how climate related disruption to transport turns into economic loss for women.

One detail worth planning around. The uptake plan carries 30% of the evaluation weight, so RIDE wants the decision makers you intend to influence named from the start of the work, not consulted after the findings land.
