HIAS and IFSH Joint Fellowship 2027 in Hamburg for researchers in peace and security

A funded research stay of three to nine months in Hamburg for scholars who hold a doctorate and work on peace, security, political violence, European security, emerging technologies or climate security. IFSH funds the fellowship, provides a fully equipped workspace in central Hamburg and pairs every fellow with an academic tandem partner. Applications close on 16 November 2026 and the earliest possible start is October 2027.

Eligibility: A doctorate is the minimum requirement for applicants working in academia, in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences or life sciences

Funding or benefit

The fellowship is funded by IFSH, either as a stipend paid to the fellow or as reimbursement of the home institution's cost of a teaching replacement. The call publishes no amount. Fellows also receive a fully equipped workspace in central Hamburg and may be housed in the centrally located guesthouse of the University of Hamburg, which offers fully furnished apartments with cooking facilities. Any financial contribution from your home institution, such as a sabbatical or paid research leave, is highly encouraged and should be mentioned in the application.
