About this opportunity

The TRANSPOSE Innovation Challenge 2026 is a cross-industry global business contest organised by Yamaha Corporation to find startups whose ideas can shape the future of sound, music and entertainment. The 2026 edition is the second run of the challenge. The inaugural edition attracted 314 applications from 63 countries, and Yamaha continued discussions with several winning companies on possible collaboration and commercialisation.

Applicants choose one of four themes. Venue looks at technology driven ideas for arenas, stadiums and amusement parks. Senior explores how music and technology can help older people live healthier, more connected lives. Game combines games, technology and intellectual property for immersive experiences. Timeless asks how entertainment moments and memories can become lasting value. The contest is open to startups and business entities worldwide in any business area, as long as the solution fits one theme, and each company may submit only one entry. Participation is free with no purchase or payment obligation.

The Grand Prix award carries up to 5 million Japanese yen in proof of concept funding plus discussions on the use of Yamaha and partner company assets and potential collaboration. The Yamaha Award offers up to 2 million Japanese yen in proof of concept funding. The SEGA SAMMY Award includes free use of the TUNNEL TOKYO event space once between March and August 2027 and a promotional video placement on its LED display, and the YMI Fund Award opens fundraising discussions with members of the Yamaha Music Innovations Fund. Applications close on 31 October 2026 at 23:59 Japan Standard Time, which is 3:59 PM on the same day in Nigeria, and the final pitch takes place in person in Japan on 15 February 2027.
