About this opportunity

The Electoral Integrity Project runs a yearly Fellowship programme that connects academics and practitioners at all career stages to its research network on how elections are conducted and defended around the world. Fellows work on their own electoral integrity research with the support of the project team, other fellows and members of the International Advisory Board, and Junior Fellows can be matched with a senior mentor.

There is no nationality, race or continent restriction on the general fellowship categories, which means Nigerian and African academics and election practitioners can apply on the same terms as anyone else. Junior Fellows are master's or doctoral students or candidates, Practitioner Fellows are people working in a field related to electoral integrity at any stage of their career, and the two specialised streams add the Carter Center Democracy Fellowships for students or scholars from any country and two Electoral Management Resiliency Fellowships of 1,000 CAD each for junior scholars or practitioners working on electoral management resilience.

Fellowship time is expected to go into research rather than money, most categories are unpaid research affiliations that offer network, mentorship and publication support, while the Electoral Management Resiliency Fellowships carry the stated 1,000 CAD award funded in part by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

Applications for the 2027 Fellowship programme are open until 30 October 2026 through the official application form linked from the Electoral Integrity Project fellows page. Applicants choose their fellowship category and describe the project they want to pursue during the year.
