About this opportunity
Two years of a master's degree taught entirely in English, at least two European universities and a scholarship that covers tuition and pays you to live while you study. The Mundus Journalism degree has been running since 2005 and its whole frame is journalism, media and globalisation read as one connected subject rather than three separate ones.
Year one is fixed in Denmark at Aarhus University and the Danish School of Media and Journalism. Year two is where you specialise, choosing between Cultures and Contexts at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Politics and Communication at the University of Amsterdam, Authoritarianism and Transition at Charles University, or Crisis and Conflict at City St George's, University of London. Admission wants a bachelor's degree based on at least three years of full-time study and at least three months of journalistic experience, because the programme sits in media and journalism studies rather than basic skills training.
The scholarship is what makes this competitive. Between 10 and 15 Erasmus Mundus awards go to the highest-ranking candidates out of up to 700 applications, while roughly 80 to 90 students are admitted in total, so most admitted students enrol as self-funded. Each scholarship waives tuition for both years, pays EUR 1,400 a month for up to 24 months and includes free health and liability insurance. On top of that every Mundus Journalism student can apply for an Erasmus+ stipend toward second-year study, and the provider notes that all eligible students so far have received it.
Applicants of all nationalities are eligible, subject to two rules: you cannot hold an Erasmus Mundus scholarship if you have already completed a master's of two years or more after a three-year bachelor's, or if you have previously held an Erasmus Mundus scholarship. Either of those still leaves admission as a self-funded student open. The application period runs from 1 November and closes on 10 January 2027 at 13:00 Central European Time, results arrive on 1 March and the course starts in Aarhus on 1 September.
