About this opportunity
You have the research done and the analysis closed, but the manuscript is still sitting half written. That is exactly the gap this residency was built for. The International Centre for Theoretical Physics, a UNESCO Category 1 institute in Trieste, runs the ICTP-CCG Academic Writing Residency together with the Climate Compatible Growth programme, and the second edition is scheduled for 1 to 19 March 2027.
The shape of the stay is simple and generous. You spend roughly three weeks on the ICTP campus with dedicated writing time, private guesthouse accommodation, meals covered by a daily subsistence allowance, and round trip airfare paid. Alongside the quiet hours, you get in person mentorship from academics in the CCG Consortium, the kind of feedback that usually takes a conference coffee break to earn. There is no registration fee, and a limited number of grants support attendance, with priority for participants from developing countries. By the end of the stay you are expected to produce a pre-print and, ideally, submit the paper to a peer reviewed journal, with optional open access support available on approval.
The fit matters more than the CV. Your research must already be complete, because the residency is exclusively for writing and publication, and the paper should align with one of CCG's research themes, among them energy systems and low carbon transitions, sustainable transport, infrastructure resilience and circularity, resource efficiency and critical minerals, green growth and climate finance, governance and equity, Data to Deal investment preparation, system planning, green hydrogen and emerging fuels. Nationals of ODA eligible countries may apply, with priority given to least developed countries, and you must also be affiliated with a university or research institution in an ODA eligible country. Nigeria sits on the DAC list of ODA recipients, so Nigerian researchers holding a completed draft qualify to apply, as do scholars from most other African countries. South South co authorship, earlier participation in CCG capacity building, and contact with a CCG academic before applying all count in your favour.
