CODESRIA Research Grants on University Ecosystems 2027

CODESRIA is funding research grants of USD 5,000 to USD 15,000 for 15 months of support, for researchers affiliated with a recognised African university or research institution. This call is about higher education, gender, academic freedom and the quality of associational life in African universities, with funding support from the Andrew Carnegie Foundation. Proposals can be individual or by a team of 3 to 5 researchers. Applications close 16 January 2027.

DIW Berlin Graduate Center Fully Funded PhD in Economics, 2027 Intake

DIW Berlin has opened applications for its 2027 doctoral intake, a five year economics PhD in Berlin with no tuition fees, a 1,650 Euro monthly stipend during the course year and paid research department employment for years two to five.

Eligibility: A master degree or diploma in Economics or Business Studies, or a related field such as civil engineering, statistics or quantitative social science with a sufficient background in Economics

Echidna Global Scholars Program 2027 at the Brookings Institution: A Fully Funded Six Month Research Fellowship for Mid-Career Leaders from the Global South, Applications Close 1 December 2026

The Echidna Global Scholars Program is a six month visiting fellowship run by the Center for Universal Education at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. It places mid-career leaders from the Global South in a structured research cycle so they can build the evidence behind gender-transformative education, that is, work that improves learning opportunities and life outcomes for girls, young women and gender non-conforming people. Scholars receive a total stipend of US$26,500, and the programme covers round-trip travel, single-occupancy housing during the four month residency, the costs of the visa process, the opening research design retreat and a limited health insurance plan. Because it is open to experienced professionals with substantial ties to any country in the Global South, a Nigerian or other African education, research, civil society or government leader competes on the same terms as applicants from elsewhere. Applications for the 2027 cohort close on 1 December 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.

Funding or benefit

A total stipend of US$26,500 supports living costs across the pre-residency and residency periods, subject to United States tax withholding and reporting. The programme also covers round-trip travel, single-occupancy housing for the four month residency in Washington, D.C., the costs of the April 2027 research design retreat, visa process costs, and a limited health insurance plan. Post-residency seed funding for an impact project may be offered to some scholars but is not guaranteed.
